The Zipper galeria is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition of João Castilho, one of the most prominent names of Brazilian contemporary photography. Gathering a series of new works that arise from his conceptual and formal investigation on photography and video, the individual show “Porcelain and Volcano” will be opened next Thursday, on August 6th. Castilho will also display some sculptures, a new side of his artistic output. The resin sculpture Dog (2015), for instance, shows the animal trying to bite its own tails.

According to the artist, the works exhibited are reminiscent of images and ideas associated with the materials mentioned on the show’s title – between lightness and delicacy of porcelain and weight and fury of the volcano. There is a hidden energy of both rupture and permanence of things and beings in the world. However, as he says, the torment of stagnation is not a stage that can be actually overcome, but a permanent state.

The show still brings two works of his previous series Zoo, in which he takes photos of wild animals places in domestic environment, exploring the border that separate humans of other species.
