Projeto !wr?

15 December 2012 - 19 January 2013

From the loss of aura to its dematerialization in the digital medium and the subsequent distribution on networks, image has gone through endless stages and statutes in the last 200 years.

In this project/experiment, we are interested in reflecting on some particular aspects.

On the one hand we are interested in thinking the image in its quality of annotation, scribble, sketch, speculating that electronic devices work as a kind of contemporary "moleskine". We could talk about transitive images that act as notes that refer to other subjects. In the second instance, we are interested in reflecting on the growing interdependent relationship between images and word, in a circuit that has expanded exponentially from the circulation of images in electronic interfaces. And lastly we are interested in testing the power of the network as a trusted device. In the constellation system, some of the participants will be invited indirectly by the selected artists themselves.

These topics navigate the common body of the compression of space/time in which most citizens of big cities live our lives. Just like the Eskimo learned to distinguish endless shades of gray between black and white, and just like the forest dwellers detect the slightest movement in a scene saturated with information we, inhabitants of contemporary cities, are learning to deal with the faculty of synthesis required to survive in a world saturated with stimuli and demands.

This project seeks to challenge artists and thinkers to develop, in a short period of time, images and words which materialize in an exhibition after traveling through the networks. Each artist will send an image by e-mail or download and, after random picking, each critical or thinker will write an essay of no more than 142 characters (including spaces) on an image. The printed result will be exhibited at Zipper Galeria between December 15, 2012 and January 19, 2013.
