Katia Maciel Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, b. 1963

Katia Maciel (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1963) is an artist, poet and teacher at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Her work investigates the imaginary of the images themselves, in relation to landscapes, to objects and to the word. In her videos and installations, the influence of cinema is striking in scale, in the poetics of movement, and in the inclusion of the spectator.

 

Her work has been exhibited in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the United States, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden and China.

 

She has received the following awards, among others: Prêmio Honra ao Mérito Arte e Patrimônio (2013), Prêmio da Caixa Cultural Brasília (2011), Funarte de Estímulo à Criação Artística em Artes Visuais (2010), Rumos Itaucultural (2009), Prêmio Sérgio Motta (2005), Petrobrás Mídias digitais (2003), Transmídia Itaúcultural (2002), Artes Visuais Rioarte (2000).

 

Her works are featured in the collections: Gilberto Chateaubriand, Museu de Arte do Rio, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, Oi Futuro do Rio de Janeiro and Maison Européenne de la Photographie, among others.
