Zip'Up: Aéreos: Fabio Flaks

9 - 30 July 2011

Zipper Galeria presents, at Zip'Up, the exhibition Aéreos by Fabio Flaks. The show, curated by Mario Gioia, presents recent works, including drawings, paintings and engravings. Opening on July 9 (Saturday), from 12PM.

The paintings by Fabio Flaks take us to skate ramps, strangely empty on a day of favorable weather for outdoor activities. According to curator Mario Gioia, Flaks' work has "emptiness and the crisis of representation as its two main vectors, aside from choosing the quotidian as one of his aims."

On these canvases is interesting to point out " dialogues with common modern-brutalist buildings [...].the blue sky, with clouds of seductive shapes, breaks the symmetry of the construction undertaken by man, generating an interesting friction between the refined and the rational", says Gioia.

In contrast to the paintings, the artist shows drawings of three amplifiers and a bass drum. The obsessive manual labor of the artist, who fills with pencil the paper surface, is noticeable - the blank and empty areas eventually make evident much work was engaged in the piece - and evoke the strength of consumption (recognition of the brand) versus the emptying out of word, the curator explains.

The artist also presents QuickTimes, a metal engraving that intends to make singular one of the most trivial images of the computer culture.

Fabio Flaks (São Paulo, 1977) was invited to participate in exhibitions such as Realidades: Desenho Contemporâneo Brasileiro (SESC Pinheiros. São Paulo, 2011), Múltiplos397 (Ateliê 397, São Paulo, 2010) and Ocupação (Paço das Artes, São Paulo, 2005), aside from having solo shows in institutions like Centro Universitário Mariantonia (Rente, 2010), Centro Cultural São Paulo (2003) and Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto (2003).
