At the water's edge of Brooklyn Bridge Park, with the bridges in the distance, the carousel known as "Jane's Carousel" holds a long journey through time. It was built in 1922 by the American manufacturer Philadelphia Toboggan Company and turned for decades in an amusement park in Ohio, until it was bought at auction by the visual artist Jane Walentas and her husband, who restored it over nearly thirty years before installing it in Brooklyn and opening it to the public in 2011. To protect it at the river's edge, the French architect Jean Nouvel designed the glass pavilion in which it now rests, with walls that fold and open onto the waterfront.

Recorded in panoramic format at the uncertain hour of dawn, still without passersby, the photograph trusts only in what already existed in the place, without any scenic intervention. What might sound like a simple tourist view takes on the silence of a suspended scene.
